COP26 reúne líderes mundiais para discutir crise climática

Começa neste domingo (31) e vai até o próximo dia 12 de novembro de 2021, a COP 26, quando líderes mundiais se reúnem em Glasgow, na Escócia, para discutir ações de combate à mudança climática.

Mas já neste sábado (30), véspera da abertura oficial do evento, manifestantes realizaram atos em diferentes cidades do mundo.

COP significa Conferência das Partes. As "partes" são os 197 signatários (196 países e a União Europeia) da Convenção-Quadro da ONU sobre Mudança do Clima, um acordo internacional que começou a valer em 1994.

A partir do ano seguinte, esses países aram a se encontrar anualmente para avaliar como estão indo os esforços de combate ao aquecimento global causado pelas atividades humanas. O 26 se refere ao fato de que esta é a 26ª edição do encontro — em 2020, por conta da pandemia, ele não ocorreu.

Entre as principais metas da COP26 estão finalizar o Manual de Regras de Paris (aquelas que irão tornar o Acordo de Paris operacional) e acelerar as ações para enfrentar a crise climática através da colaboração entre governos, empresas e sociedade civil.
